Variety: Riesling |
| Product detail: Pikes The Merle Riesling 2008

|
This 2008 reserve riesling has made a transition into new territory with a portion of natural yeast fermentation adding texture and enriching the intensity of the Polish Hill terroir. Intense, pure and fine citrus fruit aromas, the palate travels on bright acid lines, finishing strong with slatey minerals and show-stopping intensity.
(96) NICK STOCK, The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2009.
Named for the Pike brothers’ late mother, Merle, and released each year (when the quality of the vintage suits) on the anniversary of her birthday in early November, the 2008 is perhaps the best example we have ever seen of this wine. In part this can be attributed to the strength of the vintage (2008 is emerging as one of the great Clare/Eden vintages) but it is also due in no small part to small changes in production put in place by winemaker, Neil Pike. The wine is produced entirely from Polish Hill River fruit and has the intensity and structure to cellar for 10+ years. PWS
