A winery with a proud 19th-century record, Craiglee recommenced winemaking in
1976 after a prolonged hiatus. Produces one of the finest cool-climate shirazs
in Australia, redolent of cherry, licorice and spice in the better (warmer)
vintages, lighter-bodied in the cooler ones. Mature vines and improved
viticulture have made the wines more consistent (and even better) over the past
10 years or so.
Bright, clear crimson hue; a
super-fragrant bouquet of spiced cherries, and a vibrantly juicy and lively
palate, totally true to the cool climate. The best thing is the drink now or in
20+ years time.(96) JAMES HALLIDAY, The Australian Wine Companion
2011
A finely tuned and elegant wine of medium body that
marks a return to form from one of Australias undisputed kings of cool climate
Shiraz. Lifted, perfumed aromas of brambly fruits are underscored by subtle
spicy nuances. Finely knit tannins are supportive and giving. While this is
thoroughly enjoyable now it should develop well over a decade or more.
