Alternative Varietals Tasting

Australia has a rich history of viticulture and winemaking. Yet the grape vine is a fragile thing, increases of 1? average temperature over the growing season can radically change the quality of wine produced. Recent decades of drought and extraordinary hot summers have led forward thinking producers to adapt to new growing conditions, seeking out new varieties better suited to warmer climates. Many growers have sought inspiration from the regions of southern Italy and Spain where climates are traditionally warmer. Tempranillo, Vermentino and Sangiovese have all risen in popularity over the last decade; some growers are seeking to differentiate themselves from the mainstream, others hedging their bets against the possibility of climate change.
Regardless the resulting wines are interesting and more importantly delicious.
