Barolo Masterclass and Dinner

An intensive look at the spectacular wine region of Barolo in Piedmont. Nebbiolo here is King producing wines of great complexity and elegance. This informal intensive course is a must for anyone interested in unravelling some of the intricacies of this complex and dynamic wine region.

As the often overused saying goes: Barolo is the king of wine and the wine of kings. Named after the major village in the zone, it is made exclusively from nebbiolo grapes grown around the towns of Barolo, La Morra, Monforte d’Alba, Serralunga and Castigilone Faletto. Each of these communes produces Barolo of slightly different personalities. For instance the wines of La Morra are silky and feminine while the wines of Serralunga are more robust and even more tannic in their youth.

This intensive masterclass will help unravel some of the complexities of this remarkable wine region. From vineyard and communal differences and their profound effect on the variety, traditional versus modern vinification techniques and the essential interplay between Barolo and the food of the region. All will be examined in detail using the wines of the greatest producers in the zone and using food (a dinner as part of the evening) to demontrate the brilliant combination between the two.

It is essential that you have either completed the Italian wine course or have a basic understanding of the wines of Barolo before taking this course.
