Andre Ostertag continues to render some of the most distinctively delicious and thought-provoking wines in Alsace. He now has 120 parcels among his 35 acres, and no grower of my acquaintance gives more thought to aesthetic and stylistic considerations when it comes to vinifying and assembling his many lots.
Phillip Wittmann’s uncompromising pursuit of quality (with biodynamic methods), and the unique chalky microclimate of his best sites, make for some striking vinous characteristics.
Readers unfamiliar with the influential and inspiring – though not uncontroversial – work of Reinhard Lowenstein in the ultra-steep, terraced, geologically diverse slopes of the Mosel just above its confluence with the Rhine are urged to consult my accounts in issues 163 and 167. Among Lowenstein’s much-discussed ideas is that Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer Rieslings are more expressive, better-balanced, and have better aging potential – while potentially, for all practical purposes, still tasting essentially dry – when their residual sugar is allowed to rest above legal Trockenheit.

This dinner, featuring eleven wines and with six of the producers in attendance will, without doubt, be one of the highlight’s on this year’s wine calendar! Reinhard Lowenstein from Heymann Lowenstein (Mosel, Germany), Elizabeth Wittmann & Gunter Wittmann from Wittmann (Rheinhessen, Germany), Willi Brundlmayer from Brundlmayer (Kamptal, Austria), Heinz Frischengruber from Domaine Wachau (Wachau, Austria) and Andre Ostertag from Domaine Ostertag in Alsace (France) have all made the trip to Australia and in conjunction with their importer (our good friend Patrick Walsh from Cellarhand) we are delighted to be hosting this dinner at Circa and featuring some of the greatest dry Rieslings in the world!
We expect this dinner to sell out quickly and you can reserve your place by calling Prince Wine Store on 9686 3033.
Cheers
