Grenache. The third most planted variety in France and one of the original vines brought to Australia by James Busby in his 1832 collection, is back stronger than ever. Gone are the days of sweet, lolly-like Grenache and today we see great ethereal, structured wines which will remind you more of Burgundy than Barossa. Obviously, it would be unfair not to include a fuller Barossan, but gone are the days of big, jammy Grenache.

Here at PWS Sydney we have been very impressed and excited about the Grenache wines we have looked at lately. There’s quality in abundance and I would be hard pushed to find a wine I haven’t enjoyed.

For this Saturday’s tasting, I have chosen some of my favourites.
