Andre Perret

One of my go-to vignerons for incredible Condrieu, André Perret, who’s estate is located just outside the town of Chavanay, fashions three Condrieu and two Saint Joseph reds. His entry-level Condrieu comes from all granite soils and some younger vines. The Condrieu Clos Chanson is the smallest production release and comes from a time plot of granite and clay soils just beside the estate. And lastly, his Condrieu Chery comes from the oldest vines and more granite and schist soils. Along with Vernay, Guigal and a few others, Perret makes some of the top Condrieu in just about every vintage. If I see a bottle of his Condrieu on a wine list, I order it. In addition to the whites, he makes two reds, a classic Saint Joseph and a richer, barrel-aged Les Grisières. Both shine for their elegance and seamlessness more so than their power and richness. This is a fabulous estate that readers shouldn’t miss. JEB DUNNUCK eRobertParker.com
