The Candialle estate is situated in the highly regarded Panzano sub-zone of the Chianti Classico and is the brainchild of Josephin Cramer and Jarkko Peränen. In total they have 6 hectares under vines and the vineyards are farmed in a pragmatically organic manner. One of the key points about this up-and-coming estate is that the vineyards are located in the Conco d’Oro (Golden Shell) area – an amphitheatre long considered one of Tuscany’s “Grand Cru” sites. Adding to the quality here is the presence of the brilliant, Vittorio Fiore as winemaker. PWS

The soil composition, high in Galestro – a marl-like soil – with a small amount of Albarese limestone, is a combination of Tuscany’s finest. Josephin and Jarkko take a holistic approach to their ‘agroecosystem’, employing environmentally friendly cultivation methods to strictly control yields, essential factors in ensuring the uniqueness of Candialle wines.

There are less than 10 hectares under vine and they make two Chianti Classicos. La Misse, the Little Miss of Candialle, is the second selection wine of the estate. Aged half in old oak and half in stainless steel, it retains Sangiovese’s typical juicy cherry fruit and refreshing acidity. TREMBATH &TAYLOR
