Gembrook Hill

Ian and June Marks established Gembrook Hill, one of the oldest vineyards in the coolest part of the Upper Yarra Valley, harvested some weeks later than the lower parts of the region. Son Andrew assists Timo Mayer on the winemaking front, each also having their own respective labels. The northeast-facing vineyard is in a natural amphitheatre; the low-yielding sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and pinot noir are not irrigated. The minimal approach to winemaking produces wines of a consistent style with finesse and elegance. JAMES HALLIDAY
