Chris transitioned his family’s vineyard to biodynamic and organic certification. Stabbing in the dark, he propagated 1,000 Gruner Veltliner vines on the property and the big risk and been a big reward as you can see in the end result with their 2016 Gruner Veltliner.

Lark Hill
Lark Hill Biodynamic Winery is a small family estate in the Canberra District, established in 1978 by Sue & David Carpenter. The original vineyard is at Bungendore, around 860m elevation, and includes Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Gruner Veltliner. Chris Carpenter
Chris is director and winemaker at Lark Hill Biodynamic Winery – a small family winery started by my parents in the Canberra District. The vineyard pre-dates me (it was planted in 1978) so I have grown up at Lark Hill and have been making wine here full time since 2003.
One of the things that captivates me about winemaking is the capacity to capture a snapshot of a year in a wine – and with Biodynamic wines the emphasis is on seasonality; every vintage is unique. This means that each wine we make is a reminder of what happened in that year, and what was important; and the special occasions that we mark with those wines are made even more memorable.
