Deepish red/purple colour. Meaty, plummy and fainty herbal aromas, with a hint of almond. Ripe fruit, the palate soft and light on its feet, easy to enjoy already and very accessible. The finish is moderately long and the immediate palate is complex and very attractive. Medium-bodied at the most. HUON HOOKE

The 2012 vintage of Bilancia Syrah is a blend of approximately 17% la collina fruit and 83% from Mere Road. la collina (the hill) is our own terraced hillside vineyard on Roys Hill. There is also a small percentage of Viognier included in the blend.

Hand harvested fruit was crushed to open top fermenters for hand plunging during fermentation. The wine was pressed at dryness and run to French oak, around 40% new, for malolactic fermentation and the wine was aged in these barrels for 10 months.

Bilancia Syrah 2012 shows bright berry and spice on the nose which carries through to the palate and combines with distinctive Hawkes Bay black pepper character; a floral, juicy palate and well integrated oak.

On release the 2012 Syrah is a vibrant, youthful wine and can be enjoyed as such but also, as with all of our wines, it will continue to develop over the next four to six years.
