Combines savouriness and fruitiness well. Smoky, clovey, red- and black-berried with peppery highlights. Nutty oak plays an understated but positive role. Chewy tannin. Attractive and satisfying. JAMES HALLIDAY August 2016

Chapoutier’s Mathilda Shiraz – grown across a number of Victorian vineyards – can be a happy hunting ground for red wine drinkers.
It’s all savoury, clovey, smoky complexity – it’s very Victorian, you might say, or sophisticated as the natural synonym – but there’s a good hit of red- and black-berried fruit too. At the list price, this has got it going on. Powerful-enough, more complex than you might expect, lifted higher by input from nutty oak, and chewy/rubust through the finish.
