This Roero Nebbiolo is something to shout about. It looked pretty good out of barrel when PWS tried it last year and the Correggia family were uncharacteristically bullish about its potential. They were right, it has everything. Massive pretty perfume of roses, cherries, blossom and a little bit of tar, great fruit weight and firm tannins - it is more muscular than I ever remember this wine. There is a beautiful back bone of acid that cleans the long finish up well. Structurally it is above reproach. Matteo Correggia died prematurely in 2001. Matteo's son Giovanni Correggia has been making fantastic wines for several vintages now but I think this wine has really seen him step out of his fathers shadow in a big way. Matteo would be proud.
