Planted on the highest slopes of the Paardebosch farm in the Paardeberg. Dry-farmed bushvines planted in the 1990s on granite mountain soils. These Pinotage vines are early ripening and are harvested early enough to escape the heat waves of the Swartland during the rest of harvest. Long, delicate extraction during fermentation and matured for eleven months in older French oak barrels. Total production 8,265 bottles. pH 3.75, RS 2.4 g/l, TA 5.2 g/l. Yield 4 t/ha, TSO2 83 mg/l.

Pinot Noir pale in colour, and delicate on the nose – ever so slightly floral, ever so slightly bloody. Almost ethereal on the palate! Roses, pomegranate, sculpted by acidity and paper-fine crackling tannins. Almost Pinot Noir-like on the palate… Hauntingly beautiful. The most stunning Pinotage I have ever tasted in my life. Not in a million years would I have said, tasting this blind, that it was Pinotage. Hard to know how or if it will age, it's so untypical, but does it really matter? It's delicious now. TAMLYN CURRIN
