Vintage 2012 was a short, warm season that rewarded careful timing in the vineyard and winery. Most of this fruit came from the Wilyabrup sub-region in the centre of Margaret River and there was a parcel from Wallcliffe, to the south, plus a small selection from Carbunup in the northern part of the region. The fruit was hand harvested in late March and the must was fermented in closed and open static fermenters for 10 to 14 days. A portion of the wine was kept in stainless steel while the majority was aged in a mix of old and new French and American oak for 12 months. This wine is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot.

With lush aromas of dark chocolate and cherry, floral hints and bay leaf, this is typical of wines from the Wilyabrup sub-region. It is rich and spicy and has a fine palate with generous mid-weight fruit and strong, firm tannins. It would complement a fine Wagyu steak. GARY BALDWIN
