As the name suggests, Cinsault has been a stalwart grape in the South African wine landscape for decades. It was a very important (undeclared) part of many top Cabernet Sauvignon wines pre-1974. It was the forgotten red grape in the 1980s and 1990s, and now is on the comeback trail thanks to its ability to effortlessly make medium-bodied, fresh red wines. This wine is made from dry farmed bushvine parcels with an average age of around 40 years. They tend to pick Cinsault relatively early with 100% whole cluster fermentation, with very gentle extraction. This philosophy accounts for the wines being quite "light and bright". Cinsault is originally from Southern France and has been planted in South Africa for at least a century. DAVID CLARKE
