One of Brokenwood’s single, semillon vineyards and has been sourced from since 1983. Used to be a landing strip for a crop dusting plane, back in the day. Clay loam soil profile here.
A whiff of beehives and honey, but set to citrus, granny smith apple and a touch of oyster shell scents. It’s impossibly youthful and fresh to taste, a touch of juiciness, like a fresh squeeze of lime in crystal clear water, but tension too, and length. Great length. Succulent in acidity and so very pretty. Beautiful expression in a wonderful place. So very good. MIKE BENNIE

Light to medium, bright yellow colour. The bouquet is developed with straw-bale, dried herb and slightly resiny aromas, the palate is fresh and intense with focused lemony semillon fruit, still very youthful and bright and primary in the mouth. It has great length and a very savoury lip-smacking dryness on the after-palate. Delicious. A superb fish wine. Drink 2015 to 2021. HOUN HOOKE
