In 2015 the vines used to grow the grapes for this wine were seven years old, according to GW’s review, in this 2016 release the block of vines is 19 years old. Magic! Anyway, pinot blanc from Hoddles Creek has been very good, marrying freshness, vitality and texture into wines of quiet complexity. This is a belter of a wine at the price. Hard to think of many at $22 that would cruise at this altitude.
Its assets aren’t in the reserved but dulcet perfume, but in the woosh of faintly chalky, juicy yet toned fruit that characterises the palate. It rushes through the mouth with refreshing appley fruit, yet there’s all sorts of detail in spice and nuts gathering through it. Long, tight, sleek yet mouthwatering, it’s got all the layers of upper crust fancy wines in a fun-loving package. Brilliant. MIKE BENNIE, The Wine Front 2017
