Martin is currently the winemaker at Tokar Estate in the heart of the Yarra Valley. Before talking on this role, he studied a wine science degree at Charles Sturt University and worked with many notable producers around Australia, New Zealand and France including include Benjamin Leroux (Burgundy),Pegasus Bay (New Zealand) and Yarra Yering in the Yarra Valley.

As Martin notes "Great wines can only be made from great sites" so with First Foot Forward he is sourcing fruit from sites that I think can deliver some of the most interesting wines in the Yarra.

This was new to us at HQ and we thought it really delivered the goods. Made from two vineyards -one Upper Yarra the Lonestar Creek Vineyard and the other valley floor from the Montyclyde Vineyard in Lilydale. Both vineyards over 20 years old and all MV6. A little whole bunch and around 10 months on older wood (French).
Amaro and red fruits with pretty, autumnal undergrowth thing that you get with Yarra Pinot. On the lighter side of mid-weight with plenty of juicy, red currant and raspberry/black cherry fruits spilling over in the glass. A little savoury edge too which adds some interest and builds on a long but soft palate.  PWS
