It’s at the opposite end to delicate pinot noir but that’s not a bad thing, indeed the heft and drive of the wine is wholly impressive, and the tannins have me gleeful. The perfume, robust, foggy, shows red cherry, orange peel, negroni, pepper and spicy cedar. Things are up a notch in the palate, and though concentration, dark fruit, suede tannin and well meshed smoky oak are the calling cards, there’s freshness underlying, an amaro character, a pleasing bitter twist to the finish. It’s a glass of wine to stain the palate and the memory bank – you can’t hide here. Balance is superb, presence in the glass too. Succulence to the last sip. Great full thrust of pinot expression here. (95) MIKE BENNIE, The Wine Front 2018
