To celebrate Aussie wine month we've decided to put Australia's most diverse region, the Yarra Valley up against the greatest wine producing country in the World: France. We're convinced the Yarra with all its many faces can challenge France pound for pound on great quality examples from cool climates! This Mixed Dozen is packed with classic match-ups: Yarra Cabernet vs Bordeaux, Pinot vs Burgundy…

We kick off with Burgundy… two power houses of Pinot & Chardonnay… Domaine de Bellene Bourgogne 2015 vs Toolangi Estate Pinot Noir 2014 (made by Coldstream Hills). The Chardonnay Challenge is all about Seville Estate multiple trophy winner at last year's Yarra Valley Show against William Fevre Chablis 2015 stay-all and powerhouse of Chablis.

It's Cabernet Carnage with Dominique Portet Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 vs Chateau Poitevin 2012 - Medoc vs Yarra, the Portet family (expat Frenchmen themselves) return for revenge! And can the Yarra better Alsace or will it be an Alsace annihilation? Hoddles Creek perennial great value producer of the Yarra faces down Alsace giant Hugel in a Pinot Blanc Taste Off.

There are some varieties we just don't produce well I hear the wine snob tout… Sauvignon Blanc… well take a look at how the terroir of Bordeaux in Ronan by Clinet Bordeaux Blanc 2014 looks next door to Fickers Two Bricks 2014… and while we are in the Loire the smackdown continues with spicy red and Jamsheed Ma Petite Francine Cab Franc bracing itself against a little Chateau Langlois Saumur Rouge 2014…

We'll let you decide as Victoria's heavy weight region weighs in heavy on the international heavyweight.
