Gerhard Pittnauer (known locally as "Pitti") has crafted this truly delicious blend of Austria's native red varieties, Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt, into this wonderfully textural, medium bodied summer wine! To truly understand the styling of this wine, we have to think laterally; cabernet's blackberry/blackcurrant/bramble with pinot noir's wild strawberry/raspberry and barbera's herbs all rolled into this punchy, fresh little package. Simply put, delicious! PWS

Biodynamic farmed blaufrankisch and zweigelt from Pittnauer, a trailblazing Austrian producer. A lot to like about recent releases too. Seems to be something in the air, out there on the Hungary border of Austria. That, and Pittnauer’s celebration of lesser-known blaufrankisch, St Laurent and zweigelt, seem to be making waves. This is a complete bargain, by the way.
Intense kind of wine but geez it feels good to drink. It’s heady in dark fruit, prune, cinnamon, cola and anise scents. The palate is a punchy wash of dark fruits, kirsch, faint herbs. It’s juicy but has pops of bright acidity through it, making it feel a touch wild, but also, supremely refreshing as a red. Do you like medium weight, spicy-feeling reds with some oomph? Here ya go.  MIKE BENNIE winefront.com.au December 2016
