Annual Xmas Bubbly Black Tasting 2018
Yes, its that time of year again. Roscoe’s annual Bubbly Shiraz and other essentials for Christmas tasting. This year there is, probably no surprise here, my favourite bubbly blacks as well as a few other things that you shouldn’t be without at any civilized Christmas lunch or dinner. We have the Vietti Moscato, it has been my tradition for most of my adult life to open this eminently refreshing little wine first thing in the morning. There is NO better way to start the festivities than a glass (or bottle) of Moscato and no one does it better than Vietti.
Also Curatolo Arini Marsala, no I am not losing my mind. This is not the Marsala your nan cooked chicken in when you were kids, this is serious stuff and its seriously good. Nutty, rich, plum fruits and spice this is the perfect after dinner drink to share while trying to give your body time to digest all that food.
Lastly there is a favourite for me and something that everyone deserves on the big day, Pedro Ximenez. If you are going to spoil yourself and overindulge a little then what better day to do it and what better way? The Navazos Gran Solera is superb, unctuous, richly fruited and with an olive green tinge to its rim demonstrating the significant age of some of the blending material which really shows in this deeply complex and stunningly long wine.
If you add these to the mix in your Xmas line up you have my personal guarantee that everything on Christmas day will be perfect, the turkey juicy, the stuffing ideal, the sides delicious and the company pleasant and well mannered (please note I can’t actually guarantee any of these things but you will definitely drink well).
