Burgundy New Arrivals June 2018

This tasting combines our newly arrived burgundies from Gerard Raphet, Jean Luc & Eric Burguet and Domaine Chantemerle.

The wines of Raphet in Morey St Denis are always the essence of purity and provide a wonderful window in to the season with their open, honest and usually thrilling renditions of their sites. Gerard and his daughter have a very soft approach to their vinification the resulting wines tend to be lighter in colour than many of his neighbours and the wines more elegant and mineral laden. Recent years have seen a touch more mid palate stuffing in the wines, perhaps this is a result of his daughter (a trained oenologist) having a little more influence in the winery these days.

Jean Luc & Eric are now fully in charge of the Burguet Domaine and they have fine-tuned the estate – focusing on bio-dynamic viticulture, gentle winemaking and less new oak has produced wines of purity and depth in 2016. Due to the tine vintage there is also a small amount of back vintage wine which has been shipped direct from the domaine.

Domaine Chantemerle has produced beautifully drinkable Chablis in in 2016 – even though the weather is distinctly un-Chablis like, it is Oyster season – making it the perfect time to enjoy them both!
