Charvin Cotes du Rhone Le Poutet 2018

One of the best buys out there has to be his Cotes du Rhone. JEB DUNNUCK

It’s hard to find wines such as this in these days of conformity. drinkrhone.com

Made with whole clusters, fermented and raised entirely in large concrete tanks, the ebullient and ever-curious Laurent Charvin’s wines are always some of the most elegant, highly perfumed and pure wines of the appellation. At the same time, they are reliably deep in flavour and balanced to age, despite their suave, upfront appeal. JOSH RAYNOLDS

More good news in the world of wine: one of our most favourite Cotes du Rhone producers is back! The 2018 ‘Le Poutet’ from Domaine Charvin still sits high up on the ladder of excellence for us when you’re looking for a great value Southern Rhone Red.

We love everything about this humble producer, including his Chateauneuf-du-Pape (to be released in 2021 – brighter days ahead folks). For most of our customers, Charvin is a name you’re familiar with after all these years of us banging on about them but if you haven’t caught on to this supple drop, then, you know the drill: get on board.

One can expect a classic GSM blend with a dash of Carignan here. For Laurent Charvin, Grenache is king and this remains his truth today. ‘Le Poutet’ is Grenache dominant with dashes and pinches of the other friends just to help lift the King up onto his throne and be the very best it can be. We think he’s achieved that metaphor. Bravo.

This year we are pleased to be offering both the 750ml and Magnums – yay! Doesn’t everyone need a magnum in their home right about now? Even if it’s just to gaze at lovingly. Savings start at 15% and hit closer to 20% when you buy 6 or more.
