Chateau Thivin 2018 Offer

I have bleated on about the brilliance of Thivin’s Côte de Brouilly, in my mind one of the finest offerings from Beaujolais, an exemplary expression of Gamay from one of its most propitious terroirs. In summary, it is onwards and upwards from Château Thivin. NEAL MARTIN

If you love Beaujolais as much as we do, then Chateau Thivin has got to be on your radar. One of the most highly respected producers in the region and the oldest Côte de Brouilly Estate. The estate’s history dates all the way back to the 1300’s when the Romans recognised the site to be worthy of growing grapes. Does this mean the French should be thanking the Italians for this vineyard site?? I’ll leave that one up for discussion…

Thivin’s plot is the oldest planted in Beaujolais. Their vines, mostly 50+ year-old Gamay, are planted on the most southern slopes of Mont Brouilly which is home to an extinct volcano; giving the wines a unique minerality that can’t be replicated in other parts of Beaujolais.

Organically grown grapes, natural wine-making regimes, and minimal intervention make way for the truest expressions of Chateau Thivin and their Beaujolais Crus. These wines are truly the benchmark for what Beaujolais Cru can do!

The 2018 vintage has turned out well for the Geoffray family’s Château Thivin, a historic estate that continues to rank among the reference points for classical, age-worthy cru Beaujolais. A staple of France’s best restaurants—and this writer’s table—any readers who are not acquainted with these wines are warmly advised to seek them out. WILLIAM KELLEY, The Wine Advocate.
