Domaines Ott Awarded 'Masters' & 'World's Best...'

It’s always pleasing to find out at the end of a blind tasting that some of the wines that really wowed you were ones that already have an established reputation because it confirms that such wines are genuinely great. And Domaines Ott’s Clos Mireille Rosé is a brilliant example. A pioneer in top-end, beautifully packaged, expertly crafted Provençal pale pink wine, Domaines Ott is still at the top of the game with this classic and delicious expression. Loaded with peach and pink grapefruit flavours, and a wonderful texture that starts with fresh fruit, moves into a riper, oilier feeling, and finishes with a soft but dry chalky sensation, this is a very fine glass of wine. And, my highest-scoring unoaked pink wine of 2020’s Global Rosé Masters. PATRICK SCHMITT MW, Editor and Chief of The Drinks Business.

Domaines Ott is truly in a class of its own. Their vineyard sites produce such intriguing blends. The ‘Clos Mireille’ site is my favourite partially because of the view from the vines and the salty air that you can’t help but taste! Standing in the vineyard rows you can experience uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean from the Côtes de Provence. The salty sea-spray air leaves its mark on the wine produced in this microclimate and gives the ‘Clos Mireille’ Rosé a distinct characteristic that almost transports you to the sunny French Riviera and purple lavender fields surrounding. The style of this wine is incredibly rare and quite prestigious.

Yes, we are in winter here in Australia, but I felt obliged to offer you the newest vintage by Domaines Ott especially because of its recent success at Drinks Business Global Rose Masters 2020. The wines cleaned up! Both Rosés on offer received ‘Masters’ in their categories and on top of that ‘Clos Mireille’ 2019 received the ‘World’s Best Dry Unoaked Rosé’. Quite an achievement, but I must say I’m not surprised. Domaines Ott, although owned and managed since 2004 by Champagne House Louis Roederer, has remained true to their style and vision for generations. The domaines are still run by the Ott cousins, Christian and Jean-Francois, who continue their family passion and drive today.

If you’ve never experienced a wine from Domaines Ott the ‘BY.OTT’ Rosé is a great place to start. This wine is meant for more everyday friendly drinking enjoyment albeit $36/bottle on offer. The wine is made up of a blend of grapes from primarily organic vineyard sites in the Côtes de Provence. If you’d like to experience what sets Domaines Ott apart from its competitors then I urge you to pick up a couple bottles of the ‘Clos Mireille’ to taste that salty Mediterranean air from the comfort of your home.
