Frankland Estate New Release 2017

One of Australia’s elite Riesling producers, Frankland Estate produces small quantities of vibrant, mineral-drenched wines that are often difficult to track down in export markets owing to stiff demand from the home market. The wines age effortlessly, as numerous bottles with a decade or more on them have proven to me on numerous occasions. JOSH RAYNOLDS, Vinous

Visits to Great Southern and time spent with winemakers Hunter Smith and Brian Kent and viticulturist Elizabeth Smith have cemented my opinion Frankland Estate is one of Australia’s greatest wine producers with a thirst for excellence. Frankland Estate is to be revered and celebrated in equal measure. Quietly going about its work, it continues to delight and surprise. MIKE BENNIE

We work in harmony with our environment and the natural elements, to create exceptional wines which express our remarkable sense of place. FRANKLAND ESTATE

This year marks 30 years that founders, Judi Cullam and Barrie Smith have been living and breathing Riesling in the name of Frankland Estate. They have set the benchmark and tackled their way to the top to be known as the pioneers of Riesling in Australia.

Frankland Estate are one of the few producers who have found their place in this small part of the world – focusing largely on what they do best – Riesling. A holistic, complete, and continued understanding of the grape, the region, climate, soil, and winemaking sees the winery’s growth and success.

The 30th anniversary vintage has just been released and it just so happens to have landed on a cracking vintage. Everything about 2017 was perfect for Riesling in the Great Southern, producing wines that display excellent purity, precision, texture and detail. Definitely worth getting your hands on some of these, they are drinking extremely well at the moment. I’d recommend a few for now and a few for later to see the progression. Good one to cellar.
