Guigal Cotes du Rhone 2016 Offer
Rhône wine lovers with purist leanings will be head over heels with the soon-to-be-released 2016 vintage, which offers an abundance of energetic, well-balanced and generally graceful wines…. A number of producers call it a “dream vintage” for the wines’ collective balance, freshness and expression of terroir. JOSH RAYNOLDS
I have almost unlimited admiration for the Guigals and their ability to produce millions of bottles of inexpensive Cotes du Rhones that are among the finest of the entire Rhone Valley… ROBERT PARKER
There is no way to pump Guigal’s Cotes do Rhone enough. This is one of the best value wines on the planet, it is not an exaggeration to say that, and perfect drinking for any and every situation. 2016 will go down in the history books as one of the regions greatest vintages, one based on gorgeously pure and expressive fruit. There is plenty of depth and richness but it’s coupled with freshness and the wines have this overall sense of balance and display wildly inviting personalities. You couldn’t ask for anything more in a wine at anywhere near this price point.
Philippe Guigal is insistent this is the most important wine they produce. He argues this wine (bottling) is their cheapest and most accessible and speaks loudly about Guigals dedication to making great wines at various levels and price points. It is often the wine that people are introduced to from the Guigal’s impressive stable.
The reason the Cotes du Rhone has consistently over-delivered for three decades comes down to the decision by Marcel Guigal in the 1970s to pay double the finder’s fee to the negociants sourcing Cotes du Rhone if they provided higher quality produce. This, combined with the elevage in old oak foudre produces a wine which is sumptuous, generous and with a level of class rarely seen at this price point.
This is one to buy up in bulk and always have on hand to drink.
