Just Landed 2015 Guigal Double Hitter

Lastly, and from a vintage described by Marcel as the best of his lifetime (how’s that for perspective?), the 2015s are inky and primordial, with mind-boggling depth and density. These will be reviewed two to three more times before release, but start saving today! JEB DUNNUCK

As for 2015, Guigal describes it as “a monument” that has few peers in recent times. “It needs to be spoken of in the same terms as 1978, 1985 and 1991, for sure,” he said, adding that he thinks the wines are destined to live an extremely long time without ever seriously closing down “because the harmony of fruit and tannins is perfect. It really has everything.” JOSH RAYNOLDS, Vinous

I’ll say it again, this estate is producing some of the most incredible and singular wines in the world. JEB DUNNUCK

Simply put 2015 will go down in the record books as one of the greatest vintages in Guigal’s history. The year was super across the region and many regard 2016 as of the best years in living memory and Marcel goes so far as to call it the greatest of his lifetime which is a humungous call from the region’s most influential individual.

While we have seen a couple of the wines arrive already this is the first release of what are, for all intents and purposes, the linchpin of Guigal. These two wines represent the appellations the Guigal’s reputation are built on, Cote Rotie and Hermitage, and offer collectors an insight in to one of the world’s greatest wineries without having to fight over single bottles of their single site wines. They never fail to deliver in terms of quality are often punching harder than many of their neighbours more expensive bottlings. Further testament, if any way needed, as to the quality the Guigal family demand from every aspect of their business and the wines they produce.

Make no mistakes here, in years to come these wines will be show pieces. The kinds of wines you pull out of your cellars on special occasions that everyone will take note of. Like 1982s in Bordeaux or 2005s in Burgundy, it’s one of those vintages that everyone wants. Don’t miss out.
