Keller 2016 Offer
If I had to choose one wine to show how great German riesling can be I would choose a Keller riesling. Those wines are the German montrachets. JANCIS ROBINSON MW
If any producer in Germany could be said to have the Midas touch, it must be Klaus-Peter Keller. Literally everything he handles turns to gold. It is not luck or destiny, though, but meticulous attention to detail, in particular in his vineyards, that has brought him so far… an estate that essentially has no peer in Germany. JOEL B PAYNE, Vinous Media
When slow ripening combines with moderate alcohol levels, this is the sort of year we love because it promises the greatest potential for drinking pleasure. Klaus Peter Keller on the 2016s
Rieslings of the … 2016 vintage are spectacularly good: fully ripe, lush, round and intense but rather moderate in alcohol and acidity. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine Advocate
Keller is the king of German wine. Though there are a few contenders for the title (Egon, Wittman, Weil) he has a firm grip on the crown and doesn’t seem likely to relinquish the title anytime soon. When it comes to Riesling the most important thing is the vineyards, no other variety acts as such a sponge for its terroir and conveys the site and vintage. Fortunately Klaus Peter is not lacking in great sites as shown by his staggering array of GGs. This alone does not create a legend though, there is something extra here, that X factor, the wow element which is conveyed in everything he bottles.
These two wines give you a very clear picture of what makes Weingut Keller so iconic, brimming with energy they are both utterly sumptuous and compelling. I love 2016 as a vintage and once again Keller has crafted the finest examples of the year.
The two wines are quite different with the Von der Fels being its classic mineral laden, focused and intense while the Limestone Kabinett is that juicy, pure and lively. Both show the freshness and tension of the vintage beautifully and while the dry VdF has the extra element of power I absolutely love the purity and tingling line of saline like minerality of the Kabinett. In all seriousness these will both put a huge smile on a lot of faces.
