Keller Riesling Von der Fels Offer 2018

If I had to choose one wine to show how great German riesling can be I would choose a Keller riesling. Those wines are the German montrachets. JANCIS ROBINSON MW

Michael and I have been having this discussion for years now, it goes a little something like “you know, those top Keller GGs are great and all but I think that VDF is my favourite wine in the line-up. It always over delivers.” Nothing has changed, I tasted this the other day and it is predictably great.

I guess the key thing here is to note that while 2017 is definitely up there, in terms of quality, with recent vintages the yields were decimated and Klaus-Peter only realised a fraction of what he harvested in 2016. I think the effects of these low yields really come across in the wines I have tasted so far. While they have excellent cut and drive there is also a touch more of the Keller richness/texture/concentration and a goodly amount of extract and phenolics that really pull it up in to the top examples of this wine I have tasted to date. It has so much punch to the fruit and such a lively sense of energy that it is impossible not to love. I would go so far as to say if you don't love it something is wrong with you and we can't be friends.

As is our habit here when the VDF is released we are offering it out with a 20% discount. There really isn’t much of the 2017 and I think it's worth mentioning that most years people buy this wine and then come back looking for more once they drink a bottle but I am not sure that will be possible this time. So, if you are buying I suggest you buy up big, this stuff isn’t going to go off, it will only get better with time in the bottle so there is no reason not to go hard.
