Langhe Nebbiolo Duo Benevelli and Azelia
I was quite taken with the wines I tasted from Massimo Benevelli this year. The Dolcetto and Langhe Nebbiolo are direct, unadorned wine that capture the spirit of variety. Massimo Benevelli is off to a great start. If these wines are any indication, the future looks very bright. ANTONIO GALLONI
Luigi Scavino has been crafting gorgeous Barolos for many years, but over the last few vintages Scavino and his son Lorenzo have taken quality to another level, which is obviously great to see. One of the things I love most about the Azelia Barolos is their ability to deliver pleasure throughout their entire lives, something that very few other Barolos are capable of, at least to this degree. Langhe Nebb like these two have to be among the worlds best value red wines. I mean the quality in the bottle here is fantastic and the prices are right in that sweet spot of quality verse hip pocket damage. Two very different styles here with Azelia delivering more structure and punchy fruit with that slight balsamic note while Benevelli is more open knit and full of immediacy and pure fruit. Both are made in a similar fashion, with respect to the wines being raised in neutral vessels but the origin of the fruit and handling stands out here. Both are more than deserving of your attention.
If you would like to order them in mixed amounts please let me know and I will happily take care of that for you.
