Leeuwin Art Series Chardonnay 2016

Chardonnay has long been a legendary style of the region. You’d have to afford it classic status with wine from the early to mid-1980s, carving out a sterling reputation; notably, the Art Series Chardonnay wines of Leeuwin Estate. Margaret River’s famous Gingin clone (Mendoza) has famously underpinned chardonnays with intensity, power and an unquestionable ability to age and develop. JAMES SUCKLING

The ocean-influenced Margaret River region is especially intriguing for the fact that it produces not only most of Australia’s most elegant, complex and Bordeaux-like Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet-based blends but many of the country’s most stylish and highly regarded Chardonnays as well. In fact, this zone is home to two of the country’s most consistently fine Chardonnay producers, Cullen and Leeuwin Estate, whose versions of this variety should also be counted among the best in the New World, period. VINOUS

In a region that boasts some of Australia’s greatest Chardonnay’s it’s interesting to reflect that the wine that started it all, Leeuwin Estate ‘Art Series’ Chardonnay, is still not only stylistically relevant but is still widely regarded as the region’s best, or near as best, example.
Leeuwin’s Art Series confidently walks the line of rich and powerful whites that don’t waver under their own weight. Instead it lifts upwards with fresh stone fruits, grilled nuts, perfect extract and a bright citrus backbone, reminding us why the world fell in love with full flavoured Chardonnay’s in the first place. 2016 as a vintage for this grape in the Margaret River has rewarded the fastidiously great producers with impeccable balance and finesse grounding it’s uncompromising style.

This wine is scheduled for release on the April 1st and delivery will take place in the following days of release.
