Novum 2019 Release

Novum deserves to be on every wine lover’s radar. BOB CAMPBELL MW

This is ultra small batch winemaking, and an exciting project to watch MIKE BENNIE

Over the past 18 months one of NZ’s hottest new wine brands, Novum (established by William Hoare and Rachel Jackson Hoare) has really started to challenge and shift the way we think about Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Marlborough.

With only the third vintage under their belt the duo have grabbed the attention of trusted wine critics who are now singing the brand’s praises and making sure that any serious Chardonnay and Pinot Noir drinker must have Novum on their radar.

Novum is a beautiful tribute to all Will and Rachel have learned during their impressive careers. Even before their careers began, Will’s family was one of the first to sell their fruit to Cloudy Bay. Will started as a cellar hand at Fromm and left, 19 years later, the General Manager and winemaker. Rachel, equally (if not more) impressive, graduated winemaking at Roseworthy and ran to chase her love of Chardonnay with vintages at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon and Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault. Rachel returned to NZ where she hit her stride in marketing roles at Cloudy Bay and later, Fromm.

The Novum duo source fruit from small parcels of land. Knowing the Marlborough region like they do gives them the home team advantage where they can really pluck tiny parcel fruit from exemplary sites. There’s not much overhead, which allows them to keep the pricing competitive and the juice on point.

The finished product really lends itself to the Burgundian styles and, I do believe, these two are really onto something. See for yourself as we welcome the 2019 vintage of Novum to our Prince Wine Store shelves.

I am pleased to offer savings of 15% with single bottle buys, but have shaved a little extra off the top when you buy 6 bottles or more.
