Oakridge 864 Chardonnay 2016 Release
Winemaker and CEO David Bicknell has proved his worth time and again as an extremely talented winemaker. At the top of the brand tier is 864, all Yarra Valley vineyard selections, only released in the best years (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon) JAMES HALLIDAY
Any discussion of the exalted state of Australian chardonnay today will include Dave Bicknell. Oakridge 864 chardonnays are among the best in the land as well as being at the stylistic cutting edge. HUON HOOKE, Gourmet Traveller Wine
Over some years this wine has sat in the very small handful of top Australian Chardonnays produced for me. I would go so far as to say, and have done on many occasions, that this is my favourite Australian Chard. David Bicknell (2017 Australian Wine Maker of the Year) seems to have the Midas touch with the variety, his other single vineyard wines are also worth hunting down, and the F&D vineyard produces some of the best fruit out of the valley in any given vintage, it’s a deadly combo.
The 2016 incarnation of the 864 Chard is yet another ripper in what has been an unbelievable run for the team at Oakridge. It is richer and more boldly fruited than some but still has all the tension, smoky nuance and palate intensity that really sets this wine aside from so many others. I really love what this wine is offering up right now and while I think a few more years in the bottle wont go astray its just so good right now.
