Paolo Scavino Langhe Nebbiolo 2017 Offer
Enrico Scavino and his daughters Elisa and Enrica stand out from their peers for their never-ending search for quality.
Scavino is one of the great, established families in Piedmont. Enrico Scavino, along with his daughers Enrica and Elisa, have built quite an empire over the last few decades. It seems like every time I visit, the family has acquired a new choice parcel. As always, the Scavino Barolos are defined by their textural richness and opulence. When they are young, the wines are decidedly powerful and intense, but they have also proven to age exceptionally well. ANTONIO GALLONI
One visit with Michael to the Paolo Scavino compound was all took to convince me of the seriousness of this estate. Every facet of the Scavino business is undertaken with the same, almost fanatical, attention to detail that is the hallmark of all the worlds top wine estates.
While their focus on producing only the greatest quality wines possible in the region is unwavering I think the cornerstone of the domaine’s success is their extensive and remarkable holdings. It is the old rule right? Pair great winemaking with the best vineyards and you end up with seriously good wine. This is why Scavino is one of the region’s reference points for quality at all parts of their hierarchy.
That brings me to this wine, their 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo. It is La Morra fruit and could rightly, many producers would, be labelled Barolo and no one would blame them when you taste the wine. I knew the source of the fruit before I tasted the wine so I may have been biased but to me it looks like La Morra. It is just so appealing and lovely to drink/smell, a sleekly attractive little number brimming with appeal. This is one of the better examples I have seen in 2017 and I think it would satisfy a lot of people. Those who love a good glass of red are going to be stoked. It will put a smile on the faces of those who are looking for something classically Piedmontese at a budget. Anyone who knows and loves Barolo will enjoy it for the clarity of its origins in the glass. I loved it because it’s delicious and really well priced.
