Pierro Chardonnay 2016
“Since the mid-1980s Mike Peterkin has crafted a Chardonnay of not only monumental power, but of simultaneously smooth and silky delivery. Pierro Chardonnay is the role model for so many of Australia’s more opulent and hedonistically proportioned chardonnays and is a stunning expression of Margaret River Chardonnay.” JEREMY OLIVER
Pierro Chardonnay 2016 is first cab off the rank of the Margaret River Chardonnay Superstars. This is a brilliant effort from one of my all-time favourites. Few places manage to combine the elegance and power that we find in these chardonnays and Dr Mike Peterkin makes one of the best at Pierro. He first established Pierro in 1980 and he has been making first class chardonnay ever since. The vines are planted at very high density (5500 per hectare) and the winemaking philosophy has always been to combine the traditional handmade techniques of the Old World with the modern technology of the New World. This is an exceptional wine in its sheer power and smooth, silky finish. I couldn’t think of anything better to drink whilst welcoming spring!
The 2016 vintage in Margaret River was tiny and there’s not much of this wine around. To avoid disappointment, please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to purchase this wine.
