Rizzi Barbera d'Alba 2016

One thing we all have a lot of these days is time. Time to sort through those emails, dive into a hobby you’ve always longed to do, or maybe even start exploring the Prince Wine Store website for intriguing varietals you don’t always get to taste.

Over the last month and a half I’ve discovered that folks are really keen to learn more…and now we have the time! Many people, families, and businesses have been financially effected by Covid-19, which is why my offerings each week have sort of morphed into a “huge savings” type deal. I didn’t do this deliberately, but as we continued to work loyally with our suppliers I felt it necessary to pass some extra savings onto you. This “ain’t” no bin-ends bargain…this is just us wanting to make things easy and affordable for you during this time. I’ve enjoyed it and I hope you have to!
Now, down to the good stuff – I revisited Cantina Rizzi’s Barbera d’Alba 2016 over the weekend and was joyfully reminded of the great things this varietal can do. It’s a “go with everything” type of wine with loads of youthful elements still showing. Bright red fruits and a silky-smooth finish. This could go with pizza, pasta, steak, roast…you name it.

Winemaker Enrico Dellapiana of Cantina Rizzi produces incredible wines often found at a higher price point albeit: Barbaresco, but I think sampling his Barbera d’Alba is a great way to see his style before you splurge on the heavy-hitters. Enrico is humbly turning out some fantastic wine year after year. I can’t wait to visit them at the Cantina when all of this is behind us, but for now we have his bottles to remind us of the beautiful Italian landscape and its vibrant people.
