Suavia makes wines of notable complexity that need air to show their best. ANTONIO GALLONI

What really sets today’s Soave apart is a scintillating, mineral toned freshness that barely seems to diminish with bottle age. DECANTER MAGAZINE

For the last two years now we have been delighted to be able to offer our customers Suavia, one of the top very small handful of producers in Soave. Their line up consists of three wines, the Massi Fitti (100% Trebbianao di Soave) and Monte Cabonare (100% Garganega) and their “entry level” Classico, though there is nothing entry level about this wine.

All the wines come from the heart of the original zone on volcanic hillsides sites surrounding the medieval village – Soave – and all continue to prosecute the Suavia style of intensity of flavour, minerality and texture. Bristling with energy they are exciting white wines on any level, particularly the two cuvees.

They of course also continue to disavow one of the notions that the commercially made Soave that dominates the marketplace is what one should expect from this region. It is makers like Giovani Tesari (Suavia’s owner) followed by daughters Meri, Valentina and Alessandra that have dramatically re-drawn our own palate expectations for this style. They and their ilk have returned Soave (from the original zone) to its rightful place as one of Italy’s greatest white wines.

The wines always arrive in Oz before the reviews are released but as you would have found last year and judging from your response, the wines speak for themselves. They are among the top three or so producers in the region and their wines stand out for their verve and energy, they are a fresh and more engaging version of Soave and hands down one of our favourite food wines. I also have a little soft spot for the Massi Fitti: intriguingly textural and focused. The entry level is more everyday drinking – a beautifully made, expressive and energetic wine seemingly made for matching with food.

They have just landed and we have very limited quantities of the Monte Carbonare and Massi Fitti. We are offering them at more than 20% off in straight dozens of the Classico and straight six packs of the two top wines.
