Tempier 2017 Reds
Domaine Tempier stands tall as one of the most widely coveted Domaines in Bandol. Their reds are deep and chiseled expressions of this tiny mediterranean appellation. Dense, fruit forward and laced with provencal herbs these are benchmark wines that will reward anyone who has the patience to cellar them.
The domaine produces four cuvee’s of Bandol rouge. Three single site wines and the cuvee classique a blend of all sites. This wine accounts for the majority of the estates red wine production and is a fantastic entree into the world of brooding but beautiful Bandol.
La Migoua represents a scattering of vineyards that occupy a single hillside (Beausset Vieux) with some of the oldest rock outcrops in the region. It’s altitude (300 metres), diverse vineyard aspects and larger portion of Cinsault (25%) & Grenache (15%) allow for this structured wine to deliver wonderful aromatics.
La Tourtine sits at the top a hill near Castellet in a very exposed site. Lots of sun and wind favour Mouvedre here, which is planted on Sandstone and deep clay. The latter helping keep the vines hydrated in such an intense environment. The wine tends to be powerful whilst retaining a defined fruit profile.
Just below Tourtine lies the Cabassaou Vineyard which is much more sheltered trapping the heat. This site has some of the estates oldest vines and lowest yields producing a wine of true power and pedigree.
In addition to the 2017 reds we have again received an allocation of the Tempier Blanc, this year 2018. It is equally compelling and rarely seen.
