Tempier Bandol Rose 2018
One of the great benchmarks for rose in the galaxy. WINE FRONT
Arguably one of the greatest rosé of the world and for a long, long time. JAMES SUCKLING
A vertical of Domaine Tempier Bandol a few years ago showed me that this
iconic Provençal rosé could last as long as 30 years. JANCIS
Domaine Tempier was immortalised in Kermit Lynch’s book 'Adventures on the Wine Route’ & is generally regarded as one of the finest producers of Bandol, responsible for the resurgence of Mouvedre in the appellation and setting the standard for most of the neighbouring properties to follow.
Their superb rose is considered to one the worlds finest with the yearly production being eagerly awaited for around the globe. Although this iconic rose bears the onion skin -salmon pink colour that has driven sales of this category the typical ‘saignee method’ is rarely ever used. Tempier uses grapes hand harvested from mature vines (average 20 years of age). The fruit is then 65% direct pressed and 35% cold macerated to extract colour, texture and aromatics. It is fermented in a mix of concrete and stainless steel.
Although we have another decent allocation this year, we expect this to be quickly devoured so encourage you to start preparing for summer now. There are 6 magnums, which would be perfect for xmas lunch 2024 (or anytime in between).
