Two Tonne Tasmania TMV 2017
Ricky Evans, winemaker, is a thoughtful, rising star out of the north of Taswegia, working by day at Bay of Fires, by night tending to this excellent start up. Here he sources from two vineyards, Swan Bay and Relbia. The wine sees low new oak, some portions go longer on skins, there’s 25% whole bunch, and is bottled unfiltered and unfined. MIKE BENNIE, The Wine Front 2017
Ricky Evans was a finalist in the 2016 & 2017 Young Gun of Wine. He took home the Young Gun of Wine Peoples Choice Award in 2016 and when you taste his wines it isn’t difficult to see why he was popular! Ricky’s wines are well judged: possessing excellent balance, fruit intensity, aromatic lift and fine tannins. In short they are a pure pleasure to drink.
The Two Tonne TMV 2016 sold like hot cakes after a stellar review from Mike Bennie and we simply couldn’t get enough. This years incarnation works to a similar ethos: 25% whole bunches to add structure and savour and a partial carbonic maceration to add lifted bright cherry fruit to the power of Tamar Pinot and a creamy mid palate texture.
The wine hasn’t yet been reviewed, but I’ve included my own note from last weeks tasting with Ricky. We’ve 20 dozen to work with and there are no limits here on the wine but get in quick: delicious pinot doesn’t last long…
