Vilmart New Releases November 2018

There is a lot to choose from at Vilmart this year. The 2010 Coeur de Cuvée is au unqualified success. Lastly, the Blanc des Blancs Les Blanches Voies, here in its first release, is simply tremendous and also one of the most hauntingly beautiful Champagnes I tasted during my recent trip through the region. ANTONIO GALLONI

Ruinart, Philipponnat and Roederer are among the houses that have new, ultra-high end wines in the market. Growers aren’t being left behind, as can be seen by new cuvées from Vincent Laval, Vilmart, Pierre Péters and others. Readers should be thinking very carefully about building relationships today to ensure a reasonable supply of wines in the future. ANTONIO GALLONI

Vilmart is among my favorite houses that have mastered the difficult challenge of delivering an elegant and full-flavored Champagne with finesse. If you don’t know the house, do yourself a favor and give one of the cuvées a try, you’ll thank me for the suggestion. BURGHOUND

If a visit with the articulate and passionately quality-conscious Laurent Champs – or even “just” the tasting of his wines – doesn’t leave you inspired about the future of Champagne, then I don’t know what that would take. DAVID SCHILKNECHT

While a new arrival of the wines from Laurent Champs is always a happy time around PWS HQ it is has a little extra air of excitement this year as the great man has released a new cuvee for the first time in a while. This shipment will see the release in Australia of his first ever Blanc des Blancs Cuvee Les Blanches Voies 2009 which was unveiled earlier this year with great reviews.

Along with the new wine are top ups of the classics from Laurent including the devastatingly beautiful Grand Cellier, a wine that has made itself as firm favourite at any event I can find an excuse to open a bottle of bubbles at. The Rubis Rose which sits firmly amongst my favourites in the style, in recent releases it seems to have found a new life and gained an extra dimension or two in texture and purity of fruit. Of course there is some more of his flagship Grande Reserve which always overdelivers on class and style for the price cementing its position as one of Champagne’s best value Grower bottlings.

We make no excuses here about our admiration for everything the team at Vilmart does, they are a reference point producer in the Grower Champagne movement and deserve to be in everyone’s cellars and fridges.
