Vissoux Supper 2017

Vissoux is one of my favourite Beaujolais producers: the wines are elegant, yet structured; serious and intellectual, yet hedonistic and delicious. They never last long in my house. The full set of older wines have been made available to us and I am extending this offer to all Beaujolais buyers who could not make it on the night. Most of the wines are bottled under screwcap, ready to drink, and will be well at home in any Beaujolais lover’s glass.

For me the wine of the night, by a hair was the Vissoux les Trois Roches Moulin a Vent Beaujolais 2011. Bottled under screwcap this is drinking perfectly with mature notes and plenty of perfume and fruit. 2011 was a warmer vintage and the wine has plenty of fruit density to last another few years in the cellar. This was closely followed by the Vissoux Fleurie Les Garants Beaujolais 2012 which is bottled under cork. 2012 was a cooler year, but the wine still has plenty of flesh, delicate perfume and fine tannins; the wine is perfect for drinking now.

Finally I must say for the quality of wine available here, the prices are incredible. Beaujolais is back!
