Tenuta Buon Tempo is a new name to the Brunello scene but it could be one of the most exciting additions in recent years. The estate was purchased a few years ago and the refurbishment of both vineyard and style have been going on in earnest ever since. Situated where they - are right next door to Poggio di Sotto (one of Brunello's most famous and expensive names) - the terroir is impeccable and the appointment of the famous Attilio Pagli as winemaker is slowly starting to assert itself in the wines appearing under the label. The 2011 is an excellent and unbelievably good value Brunello. The wine is plush, layered and cast in a rich and hedonistic style. There's structure running counter to this meaning the wine skilifully traverses the line between decadence and measured reasonably well. I would not say the conversion of the style is complete and perhaps the 2013 vintage will be the real debutante ball for the house but in the meantime there isn't much better than this wine at this price coming out of Montalcino.
