Interview with Steve Flamsteed of Giant Steps

So Flammo, I thought I should begin with something that you are not likely to have been asked before, because I am a serious wine journo type and ask only the heavy hitting questions. Why did you become a winemaker?

What other job allows you to walk around the nicest hills of the yarra, taste barrels all day and hang out with such wonderful people like you.

If you could only drink one wine for the rest of your life what vintage Roulot Perrieres would it be?

Lets go 2014 to have the best chance a good cork.

How was 2015 for you guys in the valley?

There has never ever been a year like it…why?.. it was just moderate and normal which was nice for a change.

Favourite beer after a ‘hard days work’ in the winery?

Stone and Wood Pacific Ale on tap – fresh and bright and the ultimate cleanser.

If you were stuck on a dessert island what kind of cake would it be made of and what wine would you drink while eating your spongey refuge?

The cake would be carrot cake – I am a sucker for that, most be an 80s/Queensland thing for me.  But really if it was a dessert island it would be crème brûlée, you know with the burnt caramel top and the wine would be something really uncool like old Sauternes.

Paper, scissors or Rock?

Rock,   because my kids are so predictable - they are always scissors.

If you could sit down with any bottle of wine and watch the greatest movie what would you drink with Empire Strikes Back?

Umm ….have to be Coche Dury Corton Charlemagne (maybe 2008, although not real fussed on vintage) especially because it is at your house… on your Video player….so you would be buying.
