For decades this unique aperitif inspired barmen all over the globe, even making its way into recipes in numerous famous cocktail and referenced in the classic cocktail bible from the late 1800's, the Savoy Cocktail Book. Around 1910, the company that made it disappeared, and with it the product, along with its coveted recipe.

A century later classic Danish mixologist, Lars Lyndgaard met Adi the two took to recreating this once famous 'Cape Apertif' as it was known. Caperitif is handcrafted by infusing Chenin Blanc with the flavours and aromas of some 35 natural botanicals, many of which are unique to the insane biodiversity of the Cape Floral Kingdom.

These are made in batch lots with each batch being subsequently labeled L1, L2... and so on, and so on. Bitter grapefruit, crushed grapes with a gentle quinine bitterness on the nose and palate.Thyme and citrus flood the palate and there is a gentle, spicy warmth with a hint of cinnamon and star-anise. Sweet and citrusy that leads to a persistent and pleasantly bitter finish. This is definitely a beast of it's own and sits somewhere between a Lillet-esk vermouth with a warm southern feel.
