    A new wine for Head, and not a GSM, but does include 5% M. Sourced from two vineyards that are both over 50 years old.

    Bright and crunchy style. Raspberry, raspberry frog, a bit of spice, dried herb, roses and leaf. Medium-bodied, plenty of raspberry juiciness, light emery tannin, discreet earthiness and a fresh but jubey finish of moderate length.     AA Badenhorst Family Wines are grown, made and matured on Kalmoesfontein farm in
    the Swartland appellation of South Africa. The 28ha of old bushvines grow in the
    Siebritskloof part of the Paardeberg mountain.

    Cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst are at the helm of this fantastic estate with a rich history in the region. Adi was a founding member of the Swartland Revolution and Swartland Independent and is a parrot farmer, LP collector, egg poaching pro, tea connoisseur, Land Cruiser driver, ponytail wearer and local legend (just ask him).

    Classic styled Cape Chenin but with a wonderful modern outlook. Floral and honey-dew melon with a touch of citrus and steely notes. The mouth has the lightest touch of sweetness that is quckly drawn out by the bone-drying acidity which lend a wonderful poise and light touch to the wine. This comes of dry, don't worry but has a lovely plush element to the fruit. Great stuff and may have you falling in love with Chenin and South African wines on one-foul-swoop! PWS

    Voyager Estate Chenin Blanc 2021

    Voyager Estate put out some of the most incredible value wines in Margaret River and we wonder sometimes why it isn't more of a household name. Well, we will keep plugging it. This comes off vines planted in 1978 and are some of the region's oldest chenin vines. This is such a wonderful example of the variety here in Australia - why isn't there more?

    Waxy citrus and pear fruits open up to a quartz kissed nose with a touch of white pepper and baked apple. There is generosity on the palate that is kicked along with the varietal's typical lively line of acid. Some pulpy texture rides the palate while the tree fruits zing and zip around the mouth all the way through to the crunchy finish.

    The vinous evolution of Italy has been nothing short of astonishing in the past decade or so. It is almost a moot point it seems to talk about these days. Regardless, we are always excited to see the latest producer slide across the desk and just as stoked to see the newest vintage of our favourite winemaker's land in store. More recently we have been fortunate enough to forge some great relationships with new estates who have quickly become our go to bottles when drinking with friends and family.

    What's even more impressive is the diversity of styles coming out of Italy with an array of wine to suit any situation from light, fresh and crunchy; rich, deep and concentrated and to everything in between. There seems to be a bottle for any occasion from backyard BBQ's, to long lunches and just something easy to wash down a bit if pizza on a Wednesday night.

    This pack has a little bit of everything for everyone no matter what you are into!

    Farina Pinot Grigio 2020    
    Farina of Veneto was founded in the early 1900s with a passion and desire for producing the highest quality wines possible from the Veneto region. Cousins Claudio and Elena Farina; now 3 generations are responsible for continuity of the Farina tradition and focus on quality production.
    Farina is located in San Pietro in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica; the historical and original Valpolicella. Claudio and Elena own 10 hectares of their own vineyards and source fruit from long standing grower partnerships which encompass a further 70 hectares under vine.

    This opens with a nice little lift of ripe peach, apple, floral notes and a hint of flinty stone shimmering around the edges. The palate has some nice plump fruit with a streak of minerally freshness that runs through the middle. Its on the heavier side of light and the fact that it comes off a combination of volcanic, alluvial and calcareous soils lends it a lot of complexity especially for a wine at this level. 100% steel tank means it remains beautifully vibrant. Lots of appeal here and very versatile


    Ca Erto Soave 2020     
    This Soave is from the 'Classico' zone in the heart of the region, and is composed of mostly local variety Garganega, with just splash of Trebbiano. The team at Ca Erto utilise a combination of both modern and traditional techniques to coax the most out of their wines. It's all about purity of fruit and freshness here which they deliver in spades.

    This vintage is on the lighter side of Soave but in saying that it lacks nothing in flavour and packs a punch in the value stakes. Fresh cut peaches and green apple with a touch of white pepper spice lead into a bright but delicate nose. Plenty of zippy fruit darts around the palate. The palate is clean and clear, vibrant and snappy with a little green hazelnut twang on the finish. Delicious stuff and we be you will be coming back for more after you try this. 


    La Dama Vini Valpolicella Classico 2020  
    Established by Gabriele and Miriam Dalcanele in 2006, La Dama represents the new breed of winemakers in the region. Modern, fresh yet compelling wines coaxed from organically farmed vineyards in the fabled commune of Negrar, home to some of the great names including the legendary Giuseppe Quintarelli.

    Their 10 hectare estate has been certified organic since 2015 and works only with the native varieties of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara. Oak influence is kept to a minimum in order to ensure the vineyard speaks for itself in the glass.

    This looks so pretty in the glass with red currant, raspberry, a touch of Sichuan spice with a lovely lifted and fragrant and nose. There is a touch more flesh and richness then the 2019's and some very fine tannins that give this a little more edge to the wild red fruits. A touch of wild herbs at the end also hang out in the background of the nose and give this a little extra bit of complexity. Really nice form on this one.


    Le Marie Dolcetto d'Alba 2020  
    The winery "Le Marie" comes from the passion for winemaking of the owner Valerio, his wife Luigina, and their children Simona and Daniele. The result are wines of personality, pure and elegant, produced in limited quantity and in respect of the territory, with environmentally friendly practices. The ten hectares of vineyards are between 400 and 450 meters. The land is rich in minerals that give the wines great structure and wonderful nuance.

    Packed full of up-front blue and red fruits laced with peppery spice and vanilla. The palate is pliant and soft with a little nervy energy that flows through the red raspberry and currant fruit. A soft little snap of tannin that buttresses the sweet fruit nicely adds a little extra complexity. This is perfect trattoria fair and super versatile on the dinner table.

    Santadi Vermentino Villa Solais 2020  
    The Sulcis peninsula is, geographically, Sardinia's most ancient area, rich in archaeological sites, and offers an astonishing palette of variations and contrasts, with coastal sand dunes, gentle hills and inlets, narrow strips of flatland and inland mountains, rugged cliffs overhanging the seas interspersed with silky-smooth white beaches, pine trees, junipers and vineyards. In these sandy soils, pre-phylloxera vines continue to survive and thrive.

    Made with 10% Nuragus, another local variety, this spends a few months maturation on lees, in stainless steel, to give the wine an extra dimension of flavour and texture. Citrus notes and hints of tropical fruit with a zesty edge and a touch of green herb and sea spray. The palate is minerally and refreshing with clean pithy fruit and plenty of citrusy goodness. So easy to love and so hard to put down.


    Scala Bianco (Greco) 2020  
    Calabria's best known wine region is Cirò, extending from the Ionian coast to the eastern foothills of La Sila with the classico zone centred around Cirò and Cirò Marina in the province of Crotone.
    This is 100% Greco from the family's lowest vineyards, between 100 to 150 meters above sea level. The Greco type found in Calabria is distinct from the one of the same name in Campania.

    Fermented and aged in stainless steel to retain the its crisp and crunchy edge. Hints of white flowers and lemon with a touch of citrus peel peak eagerly through the crunchy apple and tree fruits. There is a wonderful coastal vibe to the palate with more citrus and lemon a hint of underbrush that echoes the land its grown on. On the lighter side of medium this is the perfect wine for grilled or baked fish. Something grilled over hot coals you say!? Even better!


    Umani Ronchi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2020  
    The Bernetti's own over 200 hectares of prime vineyards in the Marche. Leading Piedmontese Oenologist Beppe Caviola heads the oenological team, having received a healthy legacy from retired consultant and Italy's greatest winemaker, Giacomo Tachis.  First made in 1977, this entry level Montepulciano is the ultimate value 'pizza wine', although it goes with just about anything.

    If you have not tried this wine you must have been under a rock. This is classic stuff and absolutely delicious! Typical plum and morello cherry leap out of the glass. The nose is airy and open with pure fruit and burnished spice elements. No oak whatsoever here, its all about unadulterated fruit backed by warm rich tannins to hold it all together. This IS Wednesday night wine if every we had one.


     Stella Barbera Stravisan 2019  
     Paolo Stella is one quarter of the famous 'Erpacrife four' but his day job is winemaker for the family's estate in Costigliole d'Asti, in the heart of Monferrato about halfway between Alba and Asti. The Stellas' twelve hectares of vineyards grow the full range of varieties found in this part of Piedmont. The level of quality across the board is exceptional here and all beautifully balanced wines promoting structure and finesse.

    Barbera Stravisan is lively and juicy and made without oak. Barbera Bricco Fubine Il Vino del Maestro, dedicated to Paolo's great grandfather, is from half a hectare of the Fubine cru, planted on sandy calcareous soil and perfectly situated facing due south. Aged in Slavonian casks for eighteen months, this has ripe red berry fruit with spicy aromas and aniseed and the palate is rich with beautiful texture and length.


     Fontaleoni Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2019  
     The 2019 Vernaccia di S. Gimignano is an absolutely delicious, every day white. Apricot, tangerine oil, mint, chamomile and yellow flowers all grace this tasty, supple Vernaccia from Fontaleoni. ANTONIO GALLONI

    Bright and somewhat crunchy with a direct line of fresh apple like acidity. Plenty to enjoy here with all the usual elements you would want from Vernaccia of this quality, apple fruit, lemon oil and white flowers along with just enough texture to provide a little tactile interest. Clean and clear cut and something I will be drinking a lot of as the weather starts to warm up again. ROSCOE


    Poggio Dei Principi Sangiovese 2019   
     Made from Sangiovese cultivated in the area of Rubicone in Emilia Romagna. The soils in this region are a mixture of alluvial and glacial deposits (sand, pebbles and minerals), imparting a freshness of fruit not found in Sangiovese grown in other parts of Italy.

    Small yields and dedicated winemaking by this fantastic cooperative combine to produce a wine that is fresh, versatile and enjoyable.

    The perfume is fresh and fruity, with a floral and slightly herbal bouquet. Taste is fresh and juicy with cherry conserve characteristics and an earthy under-tow buttressed by the varieties firm tannins. A pizza/pasta wine if ever we tried one and bang on for the money.

    We love the Superfly range from Rock of Wisdom. These are meant to be no mess, no fuss, easy drinking juicy wines and they have well and truly nailed the brief! Minimal intervention is the name of the game here but done thoughtfully and with panache.

    This is a MGS blend and the little extra of dollop mataro brings a nice earthy hit the otherwise bight and bubby fruit. This just leaps out of the glass with gleaming red fruits and plenty of sweet spice goodness. So much energy and lift, everything feels so fresh with lots of crunchy fruit framed by the gentlest kiss of oak. So sluggable!

    Francois Chidaine Clos Baudoin Vouvray 2019

    Since purchasing the Clos in 2001, Chidaine has elevated Clos Baudoin to one of the few 'Grand Cru' Vouvray vineyards. Sitting on the crest of a hill the Clos Baudoin vineyard is 2.7 hectares in size with an average vine age of over 70 years. The soils are clay and limestone, with a deep tuffeau subsoil.

    Bright, intensely aromatic yet refined and with delicate yellow-fleshed fruit aromas on the limestone-grounded nose, this is a delicate, pure and fresh, highly tensioned but also lush and perfectly balanced and juicy Chenin Blanc with fine tannin grip, sustainable salinity and remarkable finesse. This is too young to be served today, but this is a highly promising Chenin with the concentration that a wine needs for long aging capacity. STEPHAN REINHARDT, wineadvocate.com

    The Domaine of Pierre-Bise is a Loire legend. Based in Anjou, they make wines of 'shatteringly singularity', both dry and sweet chenin blanc.  We've managed to get our hands on a small parcel of one of their flagship dry whites, Roche aux Moines Savennieres.  This chenin is simply breathtaking in its purity and freshness.

    Claude Papin has been the figurehead of the estate, and in more recent years his sons Christophe and René Papin largely run the show. They're experimenting with new approaches including organic certification. Loire aficionado Chris Kissack sums it up nicely 'in recent years the style has become more honed, more pointed, with greater purity and brighter minerality, and the quality remains very high.'

    Roche aux Moines is a revered site, one of the best in Anjou. It is one of the two crus of Savennieres (the other is La Coulee de Serrant made famous by Nicolas Joly). These two crus lie on the right side of the Loire. Roche aux Moines means 'rocks of the monks' alluding to the fact the vineyard this rocky vineyard was planted by Cistercian monks in the 12th century. Its rocky outcrop on volcanic schist soils imbues a savoury salinity and fine chewy texture in the wines.


    The Chenin from Roche Aux Moines have so much charm, as this bottling attests to. The nose is warm and cozy, full of honeysuckle, dried herb, and wool. The palate is beautiful, with an elegant, silky, balance of apricot, smoke, salt and a touch of honey. So open and friendly, and an excellent introduction to Roche Aux Moines. Aged mainly in foudre.     Les Choisilles is named after a type of black flint of the same name, abundant in the old vine parcels that gift this wine where the bedrock is tuffeau. The vines range in age between 30 to 90 years. This is a wonderfully racy, mineral dry Chenin of intensity and drive.

    Chidaine's 2019 Montlouis sur Loire Les Choisilles is deep, pure, fresh and refined on the nose but still very young, with lemon leaf, chalk and sur lie aromas. On the palate, this is a rich and concentrated Chenin, but it reveals remarkable freshness and energy. It is a bit unfair to compare it to the 2018, which has a year more of development, but I have to, and I am still amused by the 2019, which lifts Les Choisilles to unknown heights. The salinity and mineral grip are really beautiful here in the finish, and I believe the wine can age for two decades. Highly attractive pineapple flavors on the aftertaste.     Damien Pinon is the third generation of his family to naturally farm Chenin Blanc in the chalky soils of Vernou-sur-Brenne in the appellation of Vouvray. His vines are old, creating lush, expressive white wines.

    The Tuffo cuvee is intensely aromatic and loaded with flavors of quince and apple. It has a wonderful complexity to it, hitting at first with burst of fresh fruit and finishing with a vibrant minerality. This beauty is incredibly food friendly, a great compliment for everything from roasted chicken, to fish in rich sauces to grilled sausages. PWS

    Kintsugi is the ancient Japanese art of “golden joinery”, the creation of enduring beauty from broken fragments of ancient pottery as they are pieced together with lacquer laced with gold.

    It befits our desire to meticulously blend only our very best parcels of old vine fruit from a single year. In direct contrast with the Australian obsession to label single varietal wines, Kintsugi is the simply the best Southern Rhone inspired wine we can make in a year, no matter its components.

    The whole, we hope, is greater than the sum of its parts.

    Composition
    An elegant, but deeply fruited wine, showing aromatic floral red fruit lift, and spice from old vine Grenache, built upon intense blue fruits and violets of dry grown Mataro and Shiraz. Layered and long this wine exhibits a tightly wound core of dense red berried crunchy fruit, framed by persistent sandy tannins, and bright acidity.

    This Domaine has a number of cuvées that often fall into what would traditionally be called demi-sec territory. However, Chidaine prefers to call these wines tendre, or 'gently dry'. This three-hectare clos sits just above the Clos de Breuil, on a plateau where the silex (flint) gives way to broken chalk and clay.
    From a soil composed of clay and coarse flint elements covering the subsoil made up of tuff, the 2019 Montlouis sur Loire Clos Habert opens with a very fine and delicate bouquet of finely concentrated yellow-fleshed fruit aromas along with herbal and flinty notes. Round and intense, with perfectly ripe fruit, fine tannins and delicate acidity, this is a sustainably intense and salty Chenin that is far too young to be served today but will age for some decades.     The 2018 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux is ripe and already quite open on the remarkably fine and precise nose where delicate chalky notes intermix with yeasty aromas of ripe apples and even very fine flinty hints. On the palate, this is a sweet, lush, salty-piquant and refined but tightly woven Chenin with structure, remarkable finesse, tickling salinity and serious but fine tannins, as if it was a Pinot Noir. Cold-soaked for two days, open-fermented, plunged daily and then basket-pressed to a mix of old and new French oak puncheons for 18 months maturation. 14.5 % alc/vol.

    Chidaine's Clos du Breuil is a Montlouis treasure: a single, three-hectare site, sloping towards the Loire and home to some of Chidaine's oldest vines (up to 90 years old). Just across from Clos Habert, Clos de Breuil rests on one of the highest points in the appellation.

    The bouquet is precise, crystalline and deep, pairing lemony, tropical fruit and chalky aromas with flint stone, iodine and red paprika or pimiento notes. The palate is seamless, crystalline, fresh, very elegant and salty-piquant, almost like a limestone Riesling, with ripe pear flavors, fine tannins and a long and dense, if not juicy finish. The acidity is remarkably fine, and the wine indicates great aging potential, even though it is already an excellent Chenin that could be served even as aperitif (despite its 14% alcohol).     The 2020 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Demi-Sec is clear, pure, subtle, deep and fresh, with highly refined chalky/sandy lemon aromas. Rich and intense yet silky textured and refined on the concentrated palate, this is a juicy, highly elegant, perfectly balanced, persistently salty and mouth-salivating Haut-Lieu with very fine tannins and a long, firm and pretty powerful but elegant and complex finish. Still more stringent than the Le Mont Demi-Sec in the beginning, but after aeration, this is not just a greatly finessed Chenin but one of the finest Haut-Lieu's I have tasted from Huet.
