Pierre Gaillard St Joseph Rouge 2020 375ml
The palate engages immediately, the red fruit bright, a little savoury, the sweetness appealing, like drinking red fruit gums. It's a well textured, open St Jo that will please early on, the tannins making no intrusion. JOHN LIVINGSTONE-LEARNMOTH, drinkrhone.com
Gaillard's Saint-Joseph is drawn from several parcels located in the high country of Malleval, Chavanay and Limony in the far north of the appellation. Varying altitudes and aspects offer Gaillard a variety of blending options and provide one of the keys to the impressive consistency of this wine.2019shirazFrance467$50.00 As low as $45.00
Ca'del Bosco Prestige Cuvee Franciacorta Brut NV 375ml
This is among Ca' del Bosco's most affordable and accessible sparkling wines. … I've always loved the bouquet of this wine. It shows a slightly spicy side that reminds me of Christmas oranges nailed with cloves. In the mouth, the wine is lean and crisp with fine and persistent perlage. Navazos PX Gran Solera 25 YO 375mlWousers!
It pours like engine oil with a viscous glass coating and slightly greenish appearance. Aromatically this wine is gorgeous with layer upon layer of character, walnuts, fig paste, citrus peel and demerera sugar. And then it hits the mouth with all the promise the nose hinted at, rich, luscious but lively with an intense and building finish. Its brilliant, seriously brilliant! ROSCOE PWS

Ata Rangi Pinot Noir 2019 375ml
A complex wine from the outset with gently reductive notes and modern oak spice threading into fresh cherry, spiced bread, rose, forest wood and blood orange, as well as darker cherry notes. The palate tells the full story. This displays real power and definition with clear-cut and powerful tannins. The intensity of the red-cherry fruit is impressive and the way it occupies the finish with length and uplift is the thing that defines great pinot noir per se. Strong vintage. (98) NICK STOCK, jamessuckling.com
Elegant, seamless pinot noir with fragrant, floral, red rose, dark cherry, anise, spice and restrained savoury and fresh herb characters. It's a complex medley of appealing flavours supported by an ethereal texture and a lingering finish. A surprisingly accessible wine from an excellent vintage. Should develop well with bottle age. Gunderloch Rothenberg Riesling Auslese 2016 375mLLush and exotic in the nose, but oh so racy and brilliant on the palate, this is a stunning Auslese with a mineral finish that is filigree and intense. Best from 2018 through 2040. (95) STUART PIGOTT, jamessuckling.com
Made from grapes with 30/40% botrytised berries, the 2016 Rothenberg Riesling Auslese has a clear citrus colour and opens with a bright, fresh and concentrated bouquet of grapefruits, lemons and wet stones. Round and deliciously lush on the palate, this is a mouth-filling, highly elegant, piquant and salty Auslese with nice grip, grapefruit flavors on the aftertaste and pencil wood on the finish. Really stimulating. Very erotic and provided with great aging potential. (Roughly 100 grams of residual sugar.) (94) STEPHAN REINHARDT, The Wine Advocate2016RieslingGermany466$68.00 As low as $61.20

Trimbach Frederic Emile Riesling 2012 375ml
Bright pale straw-green. Fresh nose of green apple, quince lime and herbs. Then minty, almost peppery flavors of green fig, apple and gooseberry. Finishes long and suave with zippy acidity and a hint of minerality at the back. This is still very young but magically combines precision, concentration and refinement as only this cuvée manages. Strikes me as an earlier maturing version of Fréderic Emile, but will undoubtedly be another great star in this wine’s constellation history. IAN D'AGATA, Vinous Media
The 2012 Riesling Frédéric Emile starts clear, subtle and very elegant on the floral nose. Elegant, piquantly mineral and finesse-full on the palate, with a lot of Spiel and restrained power but also some petrol hints (?) this bottling shows a nice purity and a long and tension-filled finish. A real Trimbach classic to be enjoyed over the next 20+ years. STEPHAN REINHARDT, The WIne Advocate2012RieslingFrance343$71.00 As low as $63.90

Peay Vineyards Estate Chardonnay 2017 375ml
The 2017 Chardonnay Estate is quite deep and almost phenolic in its sense of structure. This a rare Chardonnay that absolutely demands cellaring. Sage, almond, dried pear, chalk, mint, lemon confit and crushed rocks develop with time in the glass, but the 2017 is a wine that will need at least a few years in bottle to start drinking well. Readers should be in no rush. ANTONIO GALLONI2017chardonnayUSA362$77.00 As low as $69.30

La Fleur de Bouard 2010 375ml
The 2010 La Fleur du Bouard (80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) is bottled unfined and unfiltered and hit 14.5% natural alcohol. The wine offers up notes of black raspberry and blueberry pie intermixed with incense, lead pencil shavings and plenty of underlying floral notes. Some background oak is also present. The wine is medium to full-bodied, beautifully pure, voluptuously textured, rich, long and hedonistic and satisfying. Drink it over the next 10+ years. The other cuvee, a limited production wine, can be absolutely magnificent with some bottle age, as the 2000 is certainly proving to be.
The standard of excellence for Lalande de Pomerol is Hubert de Bouard’s 50-acre property, over half of it located on the highly prized Neac plateau, which consists of clay, sand and gravel sub-soils. ROBERT PARKER, 20132010Cabernet MerlotFrance356$82.00 As low as $73.80

August Premium Six Pack 2022 - Premium Pinot's
We know you love pinot and we have put together a brilliant little pack from Australia, New Zealand and even Burgundy.
These are some our favourite producers all in this one great box with a great showing of local legends from the Mornington and Yarra Valley as well as one of New Zealand's benchmarks bottlings. Round that out with a couple of soft and supple, ready-to-go Burgundies and this is the perfect pack to take a dip into.
Australia represents strong in this months pack. From the Mornington Peninsula two heroes of the region are on show with the Kooyong Estate pinot noir 2019 and the latest release of the Yabby Lake Single pinot noir 2021. The Kooyong was a hit when last we tried and was one of the better estate releases from Kooyong with wonderful energy and sumptuous fruit while the Yabby is on fire! A brilliant bottling here with vibrant red fruits and subtle complexity that goes and goes.
Up to the Yarra Valley and we have the ever-consistent Oakridge wines. A combo of stellar vineyards with the Willow Lake and one of Australia's greats, Dave Bicknell. A one-two combo of concentrated sweet fruits, fine tannins and layers of complexity that unfurl slowly over time in bottle or in the glass. He can do wrong!
Over the ditch, to New Zealand we have the countries benchmark bottling with Ata Rangi 2019. We always wonder how this wine can get better but the team at Ata seems to take it up a notch every year. The 2019 has all the depth of fruit you expect but with a little extra lift and vibe. Normally we would say wait a bit for this wine but in half bottle this baby is hitting a sweet spot you just don't want to miss out.
To close we have two wonderful Burgundies. The first is another PWS favourite in the Phillipe Collotte Marsannay. This satellite village is now hot property as prices soar in Burgundy proper but you might have trouble getting in now as Collotte have snapped up a lot of the great terroir. There Tete a Tete is all you could want with lithe tannins etched into a core of sweet fruit and savoury spice.
The Tollot Beaut is a blend of three cuvees from three sides of the village and is a forward and generously styled pinot. All the mellow fruit of this southern appellation with foresty notes and supple spice it's a spot-on example of great Burgundy from this somewhat overlooked appellation.$222.00 Regular Price $262.00
August Premium Six Pack 2022 - Premium Red's
Now this is cool! What a great little pack. Honestly, take a look at that line-up below. There is a little (yes, pun intended) something for everyone.
As I said before, its getting harder and harder to get a hold of great half bottles so to have this much might in such a small package is a bit of a treat. It's really a shame we don't see more half bottles around but there you go. But anyway, it matters not because all the good ones are there below, just for you.
We start in the Rhone with something from the south and something from the north. Mon Redon CDP had been a long-time favourite here at PWS headquarters and offers some of the most incredible value around. Lush and plush but with lovely balance it's always a win. Pierre Gaillard represents the north and the 2020 release is one of the best we have seen yet. Plenty of pastille fruits, sweet spice and elegantly detailed.
A little further west we have the perfect winter wine with the Domaine La Suffrene Bandol Rouge 2019. Cedric Gravier runs the family estate now and has combined modern technology with traditional know-how to craft finely structured, pure-fruited reds with Bandol tell-tall depth and impact.
From Italy, Sandro Fays lilting nebbiolo based wines from Valtellina are lithe and lifted examples of the variety. Very little oak with wonderful energy they are a great starting point for those who have never tried the wines of Valtellina. The Il Poggione Brunello on the other hand is all that we love from the sun-drenched Tuscan hills. Richly fruited but with a zap of electric acidity and fine tannins that makes this a sumptuous red for cooler weather.
Last and certainly not least is the Woodlands Margaret Caberent 2016. This local legend is singing right now with a couple of extra years in bottle its mellow red and black fruits presenting gently and soft. Absolutely delicious!$223.00 Regular Price $263.00
August Mixed Dozen 2022 - Mighty Half Bottles PART III
History is littered with the small and mighty. Those that their physical stature did nothing to stop them from putting their mark on the world. Joan of Arc was 19 when she died but had led France to victory and was later canonised as a Saint. Winston Churchill (besides being a massive Champagne nut) is widely regarded as one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century. He was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer, and an artist and won the Nobel Prize in Literature. Mickey Rooney was a superstar by the age of 25, a triple threat, and a box office hit starring in over 300 movies that left a film legacy few can match.
With that in mind, we have put together the August mixed dozen with a cracking array of half bottles. These are perfect for a little mid-week treat or to share with a friend when just a quick glass and a laugh are all you need. They are also the perfect late evening wedge to satiate that Saturday thirst for something a little fun or a little special in the wee hours.
We are pretty proud of our half-bottle selection here and we think it is one the best in the land but it's getting harder and harder to find them. So, we have done all the hard work and crammed them into one great pack just for you.
We hope you enjoy!$255.00 Regular Price $315.00
Chateau d'Yquem 2014 375ml
The Château Yquem 2014 was picked over 9 weeks this year, with one-quarter of the grapes picked prior to 15 September. It delivers 134 grams per liter residual sugar and 7.3 grams per liter tartaric acid, with a pH 3.60. It has a captivating bouquet (I know...I know...what else were you expecting) But it entrances with its pure, wild honey notes mixed with almond and white chocolate scents, bestowed with beguiling delineation and focus. The palate is very poised with the acidity nigh on perfect. Occasionally an Yquem only reveals its components parts at this early juncture, necessitates conjecture. However the 2014 has a sense of harmony and completeness already, as if the élevage is merely there to usher it on to its finished state. There is undeniably great depth here, perhaps less conspicuous than other vintages because of that silver thread of acidity: notes of lemon sherbet, orange zest, shaved ginger and again, a few "flakes' of white chocolate. It is extremely long with tenderness rather than power on the finish. (98) NEAL MARTIN
Very subtle Yquem on the nose with dried pineapple, lemons, green apples and hints of botrytis. The palate grabs you by the arms and shows you superb concentration of spices, dried fruit, phenolics and incredible energy. Nothing is like this from Sauternes this vintage! Drink whenever you like. Spellbinding. (98) JAMES SUCKLING
Utterly great Yquem! My wine of the vintage - and the Decanter team's top-scoring wine of 2014. A laser beam of acidity (3.6 pH) and lemony botrytis lifts and extends very pure aromas and sweet flavours (134g/l residual sugar) of tangerine, vanilla, pineapple and minerals. Less rich than the 2001 and '09, but purer and fresher. (97) IAN D'AGATA, Decanter2014Sem/Sauv BlendFrance481Special Price $595.00 Regular Price $695.00 As low as $575.00
